I should have looked into it more before posting. Limiting the visible layers takes care of it. The load time is not effected, no matter how many layers I've added. Thanks

I've built a legend for a desktop application. At the moment I'm reading an xml file to define what layers load into the map. I load the layers into the map and then populate the a gridview with the layers in the map. My concern is that some of my users will have up to 10 layers loading into the map so it could be slow in loading at the start. To get around this I was thinking of loading the xml file into the grid view and then when the layer is checked on...that is when i load it into the map. and if the layer is checked off..then i would remove it from the map (instead of just layer.disable ). The only problem I see with doing it this way is adding the layer back at the proper index. Any ideas on this.

Thanks rdp
