Hi, i am new in SharpMap and in GIS tehnology at whole.
Can anyone help me with those two questions.
When i add vector layers to the map and set their DataSources to the appropriate shape files, i get all the layers in the black color (this layers have to be in other colors).
What is the reason?

What is the .sidx file?
Thanks.

I can only reply to your question for the .sidx file.

sidx stands for 'Spatial Index'. It is a Spatial Index created by the main SharpMap developer to improve rendering performance and efficient retrieval of data in the case of Shapefiles. The Shapefile is in fact a bunch of files.

1. .SHP contains the actual Geometries in binary format. The specification of this file is released by ESRI in its website.

2. .SHX contains the index of the geometry records contained in .SHP

3. .DBF contains the database attribute values for each geometry.

ESRI has developed also a Spatial Index for the Shapefile stored in two files

4. .SBN
5. .SBX

However the format of these two files is not open. So, if someone wants to improve perormance needs to create its own one. That's why .sidx has been developed.

They are all black because this is the default style. You have to set the style yourself.
