Is there a way to access and display openlayers maps in a Winforms SharpMap 0.9 project?  I am using VB.NET (express 2008).

I have worked happily with GDAL and Shapefile layers but the required disk storage space is getting large and a member of the project team suggested using the web as a map source... hence how do I connect to an OpenLayers datasource?

Any help gratefully received.

Hi James, you could try running openlayers within a WebBrowserControl though I have never tried this.. cheers jd

Hello James,

what is it that eats up your disk space, the raster/gdal data or the shapefiles.

If it is the raster data and you are only interested in satellite images, why not use Paul den Dulks tile layer with e.g. a Bing Maps TileSource?

If it is the shapefile data, you could -very easy- set up a PostgreSQL/PostGis or SqlServer2008 server for free, upload all your shapefiles and get
your vector data from there.

There also is a WMSLayer and a WFS Provider at hand for SharpMap v0.9
