IO process

Hi,I am one of the member of a group who want to develop and use sharpmap so we are investigating all classes and methods to find well about the design and implementation. I have a question about the Data package and would be grateful if you answer. I wanted to know why in degining this package (we have worked on shape file format so far)it is used IO process this much? why we cant save our data which have been read from file once in memory and work with them after that with out using to refer to file each time?
Thanks

Hi,
Actually i haven't studied the code in detail. I'm not very good at GIS side but good at ASP .NET, C#, VB .net.
I Think its possible to optimize this code by storing the file content and not accessing the file again and again.
We can think about the stretegies for storing file data. Can you suggest?
i can suggest to use XML (Not dam sure)

Hi,

You could try to use a memory based caching system,
but how will you handle huge data set with hundreds of megabytes?
Like this: http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/shorelines/gshhs.html

I think this doesn't makes sense and the performance improvement won't
be significant.
