LinearUnit in Proj.NET

Oct 23, 2008 at 5:49 AM
Hey there,

I'm using SharpMap and NTS for producing some shapefiles that are being exported for use in ESRI software.  ESRI likes to spell metres using US spelling - 'meters'.  Proj.NET only currently produces 'metres'.  Can this be expanded to include a linear unit called Meters.  I've done this on my local copy of the source, but this might be useful to others also.

I know the GDAL.OSR library has a method called morphToEsri that probably does something similar, but I've got no idea how that works or if there are other inconsistencies that ESRI needs to be treated.  If someone who knows more about this stuff could check it we could implement a similar method in Proj.NET.

Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve I have aliased Metre and Meter in ProjNet v2 hth jd

EDIT - I reversed the change as I dont think it will help in your situation.. You may do better to have a utility function or wrapper which changes the spelling for the specific esri case. Or create your own ILinearUnit type
