Does SharpMap act as a WMS?

Hello,

Recently got tasked to add mapping functionality for a .net 4.0/asp.net/c# web application. The application runs on a network completely offline, so no outside internet access. I stumbled across the sharpmap nuget package but am not sure of the exact functionality it is providing.

We have some base shape files and have loaded them into Sql Server db as geography data.

My main question is how do I serve the geography data to a web application? Does SharpMap act as a WMS and then I can use something like open layers.js on the client side? I'm just not putting the pieces of the puzzle together.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

if you grab source code, you can find a SharpMap.Demo.WMS project that shows exactly what you need: sharpmap as wms and openlayers as a client.
