Realtime data?

I am interested in displaying real-time positional data superimposed over various data layers on a map. An example would be positions of moving vehicles over a city map. Would the best way to do this be by creating a layer of privative geometry and adjusting that geometry continuously? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Bill,
I'm creating another imagemap which is updated by a webservice (not the IHTTPHandler serving the SharpMap image). Set the opacity to something like 50%.

How are you coordinating the positional data between the two images? In a desktop environment, if I repeatedly adjust a layer of primative geometry based on the sensed positions of the vehicles, I should be able to get an animated display of the vehicles as they move. Of course, the quality of the display will depend on SharpMap's rendering speed and the ease of manipulating the layer of primative geometry.
