Find the nearest geometry

I have a street map, and i need to write a function that find the nearest street to some point.
I found out how to get geometries or geometries ids from some bounding box:
List<Geometry>geometries = m_VectorLayer.DataSource.GetGeometriesInView(box);
List<uint> ids = m_VectorLayer.DataSource.GetObjectIDsInView(box);
But how can i calculate the nearest one and get their names from the DBF file?
